In 2013 the cull started in West Gloucestershire (Area 1) and West Somerset (Area 2). These two areas made up what was described as a 'pilot' cull.
However, roll out of the cull started before the pilot culls concluded.
In 2015 West Dorset (Area 3) was included.
Affecting our region in 2016, the cull was further expanded into Herefordshire and the North Cotswolds part of Gloucestershire. This was in addition to areas in Devon and Cornwall.
2017 saw expansion in Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Areas of Wiltshire were included and for the first time a zone outside of the South West, Cheshire started culling.
In 2018 it was further expanded into the South Cotswolds. Further expansion took place in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset along with further roll out outside of our region taking in Staffordshire and Cumbria.
Cheshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Herefordshire, Staffordshire and Wiltshire all saw their area increased in 2019 and the historical county of Avon was added.
There are now 43 cull zones in total.
Killing is still going on in all of these zones and how many more areas will be added in 2020?
